Breed Standards
Height
Stallions: 16hh - 17.1hh
Mares: 15hh - 16.1hh
The heights listed above are preferable but height's outside those will not disqualify a horse for registration, to be classified as a part of the horse strand of the breed they must be 14.3hh and above.

Colour
All solid colours are accepted. Most prominent in the breed are Black, Bay and Seal Brown. Only on a very rare occasion will they be born either Chestnut or White.
Any white markings on the face are acceptable but markings that seem to take over the face are not desirable.
White markings on the legs must be below the knees/hocks. Leg markings are often seldom seen but are not completely uncommon therefore are allowed.

Body
The Tanner Marsh should have a short strong back, quite bulky in build. The shoulder's should be sloped to a degree and the shoulders, back and hindquarters should be capable of bearing a heavy load.
Head and Neck
A flat or slight roman nose/face is allowed with the breed. The head should also be large and set with a strong jaw and wide unobstructed nostrils. The neck should be strong and quite thick,
Eyes
Eyes should be clear, all seeing and well set.
Ears
Should be alert and move without impediment, they should be a correct size for the head.
Limbs
All limbs should be thick and well muscled, strong enough to support horse, rider and load.
Feet
Hooves should be large, as the saying goes "No foot, no horse" these horse depend on their large stable feet to help them when in work.
